Big Results
Getting into the meat of the regular season schedule, and the Aces are hitting their stride.
Shorter post today, but I’m a firm believer that good things come in small packages. The Aces played two big matches recently and earned two very good results.
On the 18th the Aces traveled to Central League and AAA foe, Radnor. A perennially strong squad, Radnor had earned many strong results heading into the contest including a tie with a very good team from Harriton. Defensively, the Aces took care of business and shutdown the Radnor offense. While we weren’t able to convert our chances in the final third, we were able to walk out of Radnor with a 0-0 result. In the end still helpful for our playoff position.
The real story came Thursday afternoon against Conestoga, who came to Arnold for a 4pm kickoff. The boys were in excellent form and controlled the game entirely. Sam McNeary made several point blank saves to keep the visitors off the board. With 7 minutes remaining in the contest, Ben Bradway loaded up from the top of the 18 and took a rocket of a half-volley that the Stoga keeper barely got a touch on. The deflection was enough to keep the ball out of the net, but not enough to clear the frame. A charging Carson Cox beat his man to the rebound and that goal was enough for the result.
Overall, a really nice win for the team against one of the few schools that as of late has frequently gotten the better of us. The win moved us ahead of Stoga in the power rankings and into 4th place in AAAA District 1. Comfortably in district hosting privileges and in the last spot for the first round bye. However, there is still plenty of season left. With Haverford and Harriton still on the docket, there are some excellent opportunities to continue to move up in the power rankings. Congrats to the boys and the coaching staff on a great stretch. Keep it up and VAMOS ACES!
